Citrus Swallowtail Butterfly
Hello Friends,
This may or may not be a citrus swallowtail butterfly, lime butterfly, or a dingy swallowtail or something else. I tried to get a determination with Google Lens, but can't say definitively what they are. I took these shots in a butterfly enclosure at Hortus Botanicus in Amsterdam recently with my Panasonic Lumix GX7 macro camera and 3D lens. Butterflies generally are not receptive to sitting still while wooden frame sides are placed around them, so these are "traditional" 3D shots and not phantograms.
I'm not prepared for much of a rant today, maybe just a few random thoughts. The news this week has been dominated by endless speculation about the Epstein files, and more recently the murder of right-wing activist and youth influencer Charlie Kirk.
These stories sucked all the oxygen out of the news media, and distracted us from other stories that deserve some attention. To me most notable was the Supreme Court at least for now allowing roving patrols of ICE agents to interrogate people about their immigration status on the basis of looking Latino, speaking Spanish, or doing relatively low paid work.
Inexplicably the supreme court did not offer an explanation for its decision, which came over a sharp dissent from the three liberal justices. Lower courts found that ICE likely had not established the “reasonable suspicion” required to justify those stops.
Another significant development was Russian incursions into Polish airspace, which prompted a lot of concern among our NATO allies, but practically nothing from Trump.
Another week gone by, wishing you well,
Barry Rothstein
